Honor Choir in Bastrop spreads awareness of child abuse

A Bastrop youth choir group has been going strong for 14 years under the direction of choirmaster Bill Owens, while also raising awareness of child abuse.
“I answered a Bastrop Advertiser ad in 2009 by the Children’s Advocacy Center asking for volunteers for their annual Child Abuse Prevention Month gathering on the county courthouse lawn. I offered the center the idea of a children’s choir. They liked that idea. I gathered up 25 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders from among the kids I knew at my church and from my own piano and voice students,” Owens said.
